The following information is for Butler County residents concerning 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccination efforts. As H1N1 flu vaccine becomes available, vaccination clinic dates/times will be posted on our calendar, as well as announced through local media. You may also email us at bchc@semo.net for vaccination clinic dates. Based on H1N1 flu vaccine availability, the Butler County Health Department has identified the following as initial priority groups to receive the vaccine:
- Pregnant women - Pregnant women are at higher risk of H1N1 influenza-related complications.
- Caregivers for children younger than 6 months of age - Infants less than 6 months of age are at higher risk of H1N1 influenza-related complications. Vaccine has not been approved for infants less than 6 months of age. Vaccination of those in close contact with infants less than 6 months of age might help protect them from the virus.
- All children from 6 months through 4 years of age - Cases of H1N1 influenza have been reported in children 6 months through 4 years of age. This age group is in close contact with one another in day care and school settings, which increases the likelihood of disease spread.
- All individuals from 5 through 18 years of age - Cases of H1N1 influenza have been reported in individuals 5 through 18 years of age. This age group is in close contact with one another in school and extra-curricular activity settings, which increases the likelihood of disease spread.
- Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel - Cases of H1N1 influenza have been reported among healthcare and EMS personnel, and this group can be a potential source of infection for vulnerable patients. Also, increased absenteeism in this population could reduce healthcare system capacity.
If you are part of the general population of Butler County and have yet to receive an H1N1 vaccine but would like to, please check our calendar for available days and times to receive your vaccine.
