Family Planning

The primary objectives of the Family Planning Clinic program at the Butler County Health Department is to:

  • improve maternal and infant health
  • lower the incidence of unintended pregnancy
  • reduce the incidence of teen birth
  • lower rates of sexually transmitted diseases

Family Planning Clinics are held four times a week and provide services and supplies for primary prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases including:

  • Client assessment including medical, gynecological and obstetric histories, family and social/environmental, nutritional histories, and immunization status.
  • Initial and annual screenings include general and gynecological physical examinations, laboratory samples, STD testing, HIV risk assessment, and pregnancy testing.
  • Education on healthy lifestyle choices and outcomes of poor family planning, such as Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), HIV, or unplanned pregnancies.
  • Counseling regarding peer pressure, personal decision making, family relations and future plans.

Services are available to men and women who have a decreased ability to obtain family planning services due to inadequate finances or access.  Funding is made possible from Title X of the Public Health Service Act and provided without regard to religion, race, marital status, or age. Title X funded clinics provide services free of charge to clients whose incomes do not exceed 100% of the federal poverty level and are offered on a sliding scale for clients with incomes up to 250% of the federal poverty level.
